About

Martin is one of those guys that write about themselves in the third person in about sections. He also is pretty much your prototypical geek, nerd, freak or whatever you tend to call people that enjoy writing code and dorking around on the internet a little bit too much.

Despite your first impression, he's a pretty nice guy, once you get to know him, trust me.

Projects

Started as something to do at university to actually for once code something real, Martin, together with friends, worked on SubEthaEdit – a collaborative text editor. By now the application has won multiple awards, and more importantly many hearts of loyal users and is still going strong. It also is the founding stone of TheCodingMonkeys – a small Macintosh and iPhone indie development company with a staff two co-founders and an actual employee. You know – a serious business and stuff, or something…

In 2008, Martin was lucky enough to be part of Project Blinkenlights transforming Toronto's city hall into a giant pixel display. He worked – together with co-monkey Dominik – on the Mac and iPhone simulators used internally for debugging/content creation and externally to present the project to the non-local public. Go watch this video about it and get a glimpse of a really awesome experience.

When he isn't busy working or procrastinating, Martin likes creating little software projects for fun, playing with new technologies and podcasting with friends about tech, the net or video games.

Interests

He loves photography, creative writing, typography, psychology, math, lolcats, physics and story-telling. His favorite autors include Douglas Adams, Terry Prachett, Chuck Palahniuk, Hunter S. Thompson and H. P. Lovecraft. His radio shows of choice are This American Life and Radiolab. Martin does not own a TV, but likes to watch shows like The Big Bang Theory or Curb Your Enthusiasm. He hates dubbed movies with a passion.

Martin speaks German and English pretty decently and can swear in French. He currently works on learning Japanese, because he considers that as “fun” and thinks the culture of Japan is – at least in some parts – amazing.

He holds a firm believe in Eris, Raptor Jesus and the invisible pink unicorn and so should you.
